This is going to be phenomenal. Several years ago when I had a student teacher, we also let go of the student/master terminology and started the year as co-teachers. It was so much fun. It completely changed the dynamic in the room. We used several of the scenarios you described and the students watched us interact not just as people but as co-teachers sharing responsibilities, ideas and inspiration This is one lucky young lady!!!
with love,
Laurie
Oh, that is so exciting! Congrats on the positive things happening in your district!
Do you guys need a TPRS French teacher? I live in Claremont, just up the 57N. I am looking to leave my district in 3 years, unless things change dramatically.
I pass you every day on the way home!
Teaching with CI is breaking out all over. I agree with Laurie, Julianne is a lucky young woman. She will be armed with the right model from the beginning which will pave the way for a happy and productive teaching career.
This sounds great! Diane and I used to do this when we had overlapping free periods. It’s a winner, hands down. Attention and engagement go way up in the classroom.
Oh wow! This will be unbelievably rich! Excellent news 🙂
Way to go Robert! The best thing that happened to me too was when I got a student teacher two years ago. She is still teaching using CI today.
Yes we can! Change it one person at a time…
Thats awesome.
Btw teacher training programs really are the next frontier. I meet FAs every year and when these people are twenty years removed from a classroom they are often useless. Michelle Metcalfe and I are working on presenting TPRS properly to the UBC and SFU teachers in training this year. Younger teachers– before they get overwhelmed by the bad feedback from bad methods– need to see and try good TPRS.
