I would say do some Write and Discuss as you are circling the cards. Write a compelling sentence on the board when it comes up as you are highlighting a student and pouring on the admiration. But then feel free to go to another students and circle their card, in the same class period.
I’d say just not to overload them with too much straight reading at first but to try your darndest to slow down speech (think bending the universe to warp the time-space-gravity continuum) and let the few sentences you say in class that day sink in.
I too have classes of 9 and so this year. Wow. It’s a treat. I’m living it up cuz I may never have this opportunity again!
