Dear Ben,
I wanted to share with you and the group little success stories. The kids do FVR every day for ten minutes. Yesterday, I found one of our books in the teacher’s room next door. I was put out for a second that whoever was reading it didn’t put it back on my desk, then realized that wandering books are actually a good sign. I had just watched “The Power of Reading,” a Krashen talk.
Today, a student came out with a word in Spanish that I can’t remember using in any of our stories, and I definitely didn’t teach it. I asked, “how did you know that?” She said, “I don’t know.” I said, “No really, how did you know?” But she really actually doesn’t know. The parents of this student reached out to her teachers earlier this year, asking for feedback about her learning abilities, after she scored in the lowest quartile of ERB testing.
