  1. What a great report Judy!! Presenting/teaching TPRS is not easy. I think that it is the hardest thing I have ever done. Like any kind of teaching, you never really know the effect that you have had. It often takes several introductions to a new way of thinking before a paradigm shift even begins. I love your positive attitude!! It is all a process.

    with love,
    Laurie

  2. Judy I think you organized and pulled it off perfectly for your audience. You had the slot limitation of Sunday morning, in Paris, and you only had the hour.

It’s too bad that the new presenter came in all blustering like that – have you ever noticed how rude that is and it seems to happen all the time? Had you been able to just talk to the folks about TPRS//CI, it would have been best, but you were unable to.

The big thing that I got in reading your report was the thought that, no matter what you had said, or how great your demo of an unknown language was (good move and thank you Croatia!), those people were going to hear only what they wanted in your presentation.

It reminds me what Laurie said about presenting that it is all a process and each time any of us presents, including many of the young ones reading this blog who will one day be leaders in this work, we are only going to be able to take a little chip out of the monolithic rock that language education has become at the hands of the big book corpserations.

We are all working together. It is a great thing. But let’s take our time. Speaking of, I am going to go up into the mountains without my computer for a few days with my family. So let’s all give thanks for all that we have in this great land of ours, and for this free speech we enjoy here and maintain because our level of trust in this blog space is so high. See you Monday. Go read through the archives if you get bored.

  3. I have the impression that the people who came to TESOL were open-minded and willing to listen. Of course, everyone has their own ideas and some are more willing to try something new than others, but there was no instant closing of the ranks. As a matter of fact, I find it encouraging that I submitted three proposals and the one that was accepted was the one that had TPRS in the title. I said good-bye to the president and she said she hoped to see me back next year. I think it would be great if Charlotte and anyone else on this list who wants to spend a weekend in Paris would make their own proposal so there could be more than one talk concerning TPRS. If you live somewhere near a TESOL chapter, it might be a good idea to contact them. Most members are independent teachers and free to use any method that suits them.
