Hi Ben,
I did my first set of Invisibles stories. Just wanted to update you on how it is working:
1) We went through all of the pictures in “town meeting” but I did tell the kids that I had one invisible character that I was really “feeling” and wanted to do a story with. They ended up agreeing because the picture was so good.
2) I tried pre-planning the problem for the first class. It didn’t work too well because I think the problem is really going to be tied to the WHERE and the WITH WHOM.
In subsequent classes I found the following works:
On the “problem” step of the 7-step process I tell the students “This character has many personal problems and secrets.” Then explain the problems/secrets in L2 if they are simple enough. Then I ask….Is this the problem he has in this situation or does he have a DIFFERENT problem? That way the students could choose either the pre-written problem or their own problem which is tied to the situation.
