Report from the Field – Diane Neubauer

Hi Ben –

I will be changing jobs next school year and moving to Denver this summer! I’ve been hired by Valor Christian High School just south of Denver. I wasn’t on a job hunt since it’s been a good year at my school outside Chicago. I “happened” upon Valor’s job listing last month, and there are several features I find well worth moving: a Christian school, high school and upper levels as well as beginners, and a language department and administration that wanted and valued a CI teacher. (…and an increase in salary, which is really helpful.) I’m excited about it. I’m excited to be so close to Denver and the great things happening in that region with CI teaching. My departure has not yet been announced to parents and students. I will talk with my classes next week about it.

My husband & I (we have no kids) are starting to look for housing… We’d prefer to rent a house more towards countryside than suburb or urban, and we have 6 chickens so need a place where that’s ok with code & landlord. If someone has connections to people who rent out such a home within, say, 20 minutes of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, that would be awesome.

I’m also helping my current school find the next Chinese teacher. My administrators asked me to write the job description and approved it as I wrote it. I am aiming to ensure that there’s a CI teacher after me, or at least someone who is open to training into it. My replacement already has school funds allotted to cover NTPRS in July. My classes as of next year have all been trained from the beginning with CI methods, and my administrators see and hear the benefits. They are actively listening to my suggestions about the people who have already applied, and I am grateful. I’m happy to answer questions from anyone thinking of applying: questyn@hotmail.com. There are a lot of lovely things about LFCDS.
