I’ve been with these students for a week. They’re technically Spanish II. Lots of native speakers. I was starting to wonder just what to do with this class. Today instead of trying to guide them through the same thing I did with Spanish I as a “review” I decided to ask them to draw their characters. The classroom just started to crackle with this positive energy. I wish I’d done this with all my classes today.

Admins don’t actually read the research. They don’t have time. If or when they do read it, they do not really grasp it. How could

It really is all about the characters. The only caution I have is that they will want to talk about THEIR character and you have to snuff out the blurting by effective use of Classroom Rule #2. And those heritage kids will have to produce some writing on what is created, as per the Star phases.
