Chris is reaping the benefits of his unrelenting focus on comprehension based instruction in Ohio. Here is the kind of report from the field that, as we continue to fight, we will see more and more of from our members. Congratulations, Chris!
Ben,
I have some exciting news. I’ve been nominated by one of my student’s parents for the Ohio PTA Outstanding Educator Award. Here is the “statement of recommendation”:
“Señor Roberts deserves recognition as an outstanding district educator. My daughter is a 7th grade student at school name and a current student of Señor Roberts in his Exploratory Spanish class. I am amazed at how much my daughter has learned in such a short time in his class. This is the first time she has been excited about any subject and finally after years of me asking her what she did in school today she finally replies with something other than “Nothing”! My daughter is also involved in athletics and the other girls, as well as their parents, are often overheard talking about the class, the songs they learn, stories, etc. Señor Roberts has a unique way of meeting the students where they are, on their level and he makes it fun to learn. I feel that Señor Roberts has a progressive teaching style and I feel that the students are actually gaining knowledge, not simply learning to test. Senor Roberts is an asset to our district. My daughter is very lucky to have been placed in his class, he has certainly made a difference in her view on education.”
