i admit, sometimes i am not a great listener. i like to talk. but conversation is two way and the one thing i’ve discovered about the young people i am around is their need for someone to really listen to them, they have things to say and ideas to explore and they are eager to be heard. When the classroom is built around exploring all the possibilities of ideas, reluctant speakers speak up. The concept of not having a huge agenda to accomplish in a given 45 minutes and asking questions and input from them allows real trust to built.

Precisely. That’s who we are. We circle stuff and park on stuff and don’t move on until the kids have had a chance to acquire just that much. We don’t need to finish the story. This is all very minimalist in a world that cannot grasp such a thing. It reminds me of
