writing = freewrite or story retells (of course you have to include reading)

speaking = have them chorally repeat ( i know parroting is not acquisition) then take data on who did it

“The dual immersion district leads are in charge in my district and they have said that we must have writing and speaking assessments 4 times each year with a final and a pre-assessment.”

please clairfy so I can better help you.

are the 4 assessments formative or summative? I say go as radical as you can.

pre-assessment means – pre test or diagnostic. To me, it seems like a big waste. However, it seems that it doesnt need to be graded. Just that your students took a “pre-assessment” to guage what they already know.

I would do the speaking with the lowest affective filter possible. On the quick, I would put a movie on and have them one by one give them a minute to talk. They do not have to fill that whole minute. You can have a simple rubric to appease admin and just give them a grade for completion. Your situation is bogus but you have to work with it.
