A question from Jonathan in VA:
Ben-
Wanted to shoot a question out to the PLC, re: educational travel.
Looking for ideas for travel for students of Spanish and/or French.
The typical EF & Explorica are the ones that pop up online, and they do seem to have more options now toward the immersion learning experience, rather than just the “tourist trip” but pricing still seems to be inflated past what it should be.
Besides, my personal experience had been a trip I took 10 years ago (2008) to France with an outfit called “La Ligue de L’Enseignement.”
Traveled in February, but trip was 17 days (students stayed in families- which is what I prefer = more authentic language immersion) and it only cost the students $2100 for EVERYTHING. EF & Explorica have prices at least $1300-$1700 more than that.
Anyone heard of / experienced “Chill Expeditions”? Their educational philosophy states : “We are careful not to overwhelm clients with information, rather we use our unique Story Approach to provide context and meaning, connecting all of the diverse elements you experience. To this end, we utilize our time-honed Expedition Mentality to build the most positive and meaningful on-trip culture possible. ”
Seems rather CI-ish, eh?
In any case, I just wanted to get as much good feedback as possible on who/how to get my students the chance to travel.
Thanks,
Jonathan

I took kids to France or Quebec 25 times at least with EF and I am convinced I shouldn’t have. This Chill option sounds better, but honestly w the condition of our country I probably wouldn’t take the pressure on my shoulders again. Not a real positive response I know, but when I look back at all the work I did for a small stipend or a free camera, it wasn’t worth it. Robert Harrell is the master of developing truly valuable trips abroad for his kids, as I have noticed here over the years.
Thanks. What may be the best way to get in touch with Robert?
