I have a challenge for the group. It is a challenge that cuts deep. Can we help another teacher, a member of the group who is new to CI, break an unruly class? Here is the message I got today from this person. I feel that we can help her. Let’s give ourselves three weeks to throw out anything we can think of to help this teacher fix this problem:
Dear Ben –
I am in a department that is very new to teaching with CI and I believe this is the way for true language acquisition. However, I am struggling with one of my French 1 classes. I feel no matter how much PQA I do and how much reminding of our rule of “one person talks everyone listens” that they are still too talkative. Additionally, there are some kids with add and other behavior issues not to mention they are used to being ignored or allowed to put head down and tune out the teacher. Which I do not allow. Can you please give me some other suggestions for difficult students? Unfortunately in our district I am “stuck” with them at least until the semester but rather than reach this point I’d rather have them succeed. Thank you for your time.
