Question

Q. When you write in the board do you do write the English first?

A. Yes and the Spanish below it. Then you draw a thick line under the Spanish to separate the new expressions from each other and then you use the Jesus rule to underline the Spanish real slowly. This is a big problem with most CI teachers, in that doing it this way allows the kids THE TIME THEY NEED to fully process the new information. You will see that doing it this way, writing the Spanish under the L1 and then SLOWLY underlining with a heavy black marker gives them the processing time they need before you say it.

Another point – if the word you are trying to teach is not going to be used in the tableau or story, then don’t write it on the tripod white board, Only write words that have been accepted into the Create phase activity. You want no more than six new expressions written on the board at the end of each Phase 1 activity. The average student can’t process any more than that.
