The idea that students don’t want to learn, are lazy, etc. is pure poppycock. They want to learn. Learning is such a joyful part of the human experience. When we teach using comprehensible input, that part of the brain that Robert reminded us of (the hugely important article re Stephen Camarata ‘s research, kicks in, and our students clearly want to learn, what to know what happens.
But can anyone remember “that feeling” when we were teaching the old way and it was so labored, so false, so unjoyful, so forced? I had to endure 24 years of it, so I remember it well. It was so horrible, teaching that way. No joy. Just drudgery and English. The joy that we get using CI is well worth all the effort it takes to learn how do do it.
