How much time with the parents did you get? I want to do this this year, but will only have the kids 2x before Open House, then only have the parents for 10 mins per class!
I think you’d have to cut back a bit, since the kids only have two days to do it. They also have to be very responsible from the first day on.
I have not used this on parents’ night but I have used it for more than 10 years when I was first introduced to it. It is a winner. They say if you believe the story, the kids will, and for some reason, this story has worked every time I have used it with adults and kids (I don’t have the adults act it out). It is like magic. I teach the gestures to my students and use PQA with pets, throwing in “dog” sometimes. I also have students draw a picture dictionary of the words. It is usually my first story ever. My moral is usually, “Sometimes knowing a foreign language can be very helpful” or something of that sort.
I just used this story at back-t0-school-night with great success. The parents, once I got them up, enjoyed the acting. If a dad volunteered I made him mama mouse. Good fun! I had the parents for 10 minutes sessions, and this lesson used 8 minutes.
