And I would add a suggestion here. The kid will be a little nervous with his parents sitting there. So give him twice the chance to show his stuff – gesture the verbs as you say them. (We never do this in class enough anyway.)

Here’s another parent conference idea from MB:
My Level 2s wrote individual stories the other day for the FIRST time! (I gave them 10 minutes to write) they were incredible! I was SO pleased with them. So, at PT conf tonight I showed the parents, who were VERY impressed, and then their son/daughter read their stories BACK to their parents in English!!! I was so proud! Especially since the kids are LOVING to do this! They asked me if they could write a story individually as a big project! (Of COURSE!!!!)
