Indeed, this is a most fortunate month, this month of March, 2017 in our history as a community of language teachers. It is the month in which Dr. Beniko Mason’s new book on Story Listening, currently in its final stages of preparation, will come out. We are about to be gifted with a book that has been written from Dr. Mason’s heart: Story Listening: A Comprehension-Based Method.
This book will change how we teach languages. It will help us get back into greater alignment with what Dr. Krashen is really saying. I don’t know the details of when and where it will appear, but I am certain, after forty years of searching but most of the time just blindly knocking things over in my classroom, that Story Listening holds the key to the kind of language gains we seek in our students. It will bring to some of us an unprecedented level of professional satisfaction that, in our hearts, we have always known to be possible in our classrooms.
