Having just watched the movie Outrage, I am so moved by how some gay activists must just feel so tired from fighting the discrimination and ignorance perpetrated by those who would oppose or attack them for whatever political or personal reason.
I wouldn’t dare compare the intellectual snobbery and ignorance from Krashen’s colleagues’ on his work to that cussed level of discrimination, but there is something parallel in the two – both gay activists and Krashen defend the basic rights of human beings to not be victims, and both get bashed.
Both must be very very tired. I know I am tired, and that is just from blogging a little, teaching my classes, and dealing with the general backlash against what we are doing to promote comprehensible input based teaching.
Can you imagine what Dr. Krashen goes through? He is not a great man in my eyes just because of his ideas, but because of his ability to float above those who criticize and judge him. He’s also a Cubs fan, and so he goes even higher in my own estimation.
