When we let go of trying to teach the language in favor of letting those milking moments drive the story, we change. We become real teachers. It’s as if we don’t even care if they learn it, because in those moments of freedom, of rendering that one line quickly, in a high voice, with sadness, with excitement, like a king, like a lamb, while bowing four times, just milking it for all it’s worth, just having fun (using the Director’s Cues whenever we want because they are up on the wall to help us milk the story), we know that we are not there to get them to learn anything about the language, but rather just to focus on the message with no agenda and then as we know that is when real learning occurs in languages.
