I just got this email from Claire today. The next few weeks are gonna be intense. We are going to battle at the least time one would expect. At the beginning of the summer. If not now, too many kids will be hurt in the fall.
Message from Claire:
Ben –
I posted the link to a really good Scope and Sequence. It’s copied and pasted directly from ACTFL performance indicators.
Maybe it’s more practical and something someone who is less averse to and more experienced with ACTFL could fix up and re-organize.
The key is: it’s just the performance indicators we should be looking for along the way while we chart our own course, not a curriculum “map.”
I just don’t see what you are trying to accomplish with all the “extras” in your curriculum documents.
Tina has created something practical for those who absolutely can not talk themselves out of doing “units” or “themes.” So I’m glad she shared. But is a Scope and Sequence not good enough? Do your administrators require more? Can’t we try to talk them out if it like you did in your Conversation With a Principal?
It feels like those meetings are a competition to out-detail, delineate, and plan the next guy. I know you live in the real world where a simple Scope & Sequence doesn’t always win over administrators, but why not try. If we’ve been “sleeping” for so long and Keri finally has the chance to wake up her whole department, would you mind if I shared my ideas with her?
