March Update

I’m going to hold up the queue for four or five days for needed discussion on the past ten or so articles. I need feedback from the group on the content of the past week’s articles before moving to any new stuff so that I can learn from them. Also I have some requests for some “catch-up” time from some of the PLC members.

I do appreciate everyone’s indulgence in the recent spate of blog articles on reading and such. I learn by writing and I have never been happy with all the confusion surrounding reading. Now, with these recent articles, I do feel that I know what I want to do next year with reading but I still want to hear more from group members on this key topic.

Now that we have plenty of written information on PQA and stories, we need to set about making sure that we have plenty here about reading, both in the form of stories readings and novels, not to mention FVR. Maybe at some point the group will have really clear access to good articles/categories on writing, as well.

As far as I understand, there is no one place anywhere where all four skills are exhaustively discussed in terms of the pedagogies of TPRS and comprehensible input. Why not finish it ourselves here? We’re a long way there on those skills already. Not to mention having a strong game plan for beginning next year in a mentally balanced, easy to understand, and stress free way.

I will be posting a lot more from my notes from Jason’s workshop on RT over the next few weeks, as well, to finish that thread and give us time to practice as much RT as we can. That is also why I published so much on PQA lately. It’s time to practice our reading teaching and our PQA for next year.

As most of us know, this is a very down time for stories, as messed up schedules, state testing, and generally tired kids and teachers make it a hard go with stories from now on until June. So look for more posts on reading and on RT in particular as we  move through March.
