While this may reflect the relative difficulty of the skills, we obviously don’t need the written mode in order to speak, i.e. listening -> speaking.
And the output skills can happen simultaneously, or as you point out Eric, speaking without writing/reading. Speaking accelerated by reading of course… but accelerated by writing more first?
I think the purpose of the poster is to express that “input precedes out”. That in and of itself is an idea radical enough to make the villagers come after us with pitchforks and torches. I have this poster hanging above my whiteboard.
