  1. So happy you will be able to attend. It will be so nice to meet you in person. It really is a special conference. Please let me know if there is anything I might do to help. I am working on a group rate at an area hotel. Another possibility is to “bunk” at somebody’s house. I know a few attendees did that last year. As we get nearer to the date I will put out an email asking if anyone in the area might be able to host folks from away.

    Welcome Brigitte!

  2. Thanks, Skip, I think I’m good to go. A special rate at the hotel would definitely be appreciated since my district is not covering any of the cost for me to attend.

      Ditto what Jen said Brigitte.

I’m sooo happy I’ll be meeting you in person as well! And if I may join you for a drink, or two, or three….

Until then, have a gr8 summer.

  3. I wish there was a “like” button πŸ™‚ Can’t wait to meet you either, Sabrina. It’s funny because it feels like I know all of you already.
I will be off the radar for a while – taking a group of my students to Germany and Austria for 12 days. Best of all, my old principal will give us a tour of the 2-room school house in the mountains where I spent my elementary years.
For all of you who are already enjoying the bliss of carefree summer days, enjoy every minute of it – regroup, refresh, and recharge those batteries πŸ™‚

  4. Oh this is going to be EPIC! My former dept. head, along with 3 colleagues, will all be there. It is taking me awhile to get past the bitterness, but maybe that is what it took–me leaving–to get them to explore this more deeply. I am grateful for that and really looking forward to seeing all of you!

  5. Great news Jen. You have paved the way in a very sacrificial manner to effect real change at for the WL students at your school!

There are 13 teachers attending from Greely and 15 from the Portland School District! I am grateful for the momentum that seems to be growing…

Can’t wait to see you all!

  6. I mailed my registration yesterday. I’m loving summer, so I can’t say that I can’t wait for the conference, but I am looking forward to it and meeting so many people in person.

I cast the line out to other teachers in my district. I got one nibble. We’ll see. I think the more experienced I get at this, the better I’ll be at spreading the word with confidence.

  7. I got the early bird rate. My coordinator was at a MAFLA weekend. So she could not sign my professional day request either Friday or Monday. I tried to get the principal to sign Friday and again on Monday. Out both days. I caught the retiring superintendent between meetings on Monday. I asked the lady at the P. O. to postmark it so I could know for sure. I am looking forward to meeting so many of you in October.

  8. I was actually told NOT to tell anyone else in my department about this conference!!!!! The concern is that they don’t want to give more people time off during the week. How sad is that πŸ™

  9. Any West Coasters, come up for AFLA September 19-21. That’s Alaskans for Language Acquisition! Bryce will be here on the TPRS side and Paul Sandrock on the ACTFL side. (Not that there are sides, but…) Then there are a lot of local presenters. We’re a pretty awesome group, if I do say so myself.

It will be in beautiful Seward, and I will personally guarantee airport pickup and transportation south from Anchorage for anyone on this list. The hotel is $80/night for doubles, and we’re still working on sleeping for free in the elementary school. The Germans especially like to sleep in the school and sing all night.

  10. I stumbled on this site and blog last spring and can’t get enough. I’m nervous and excited to teach my 8th graders this year using CI and TPRS.

I live in Southern Maine so was happy to see that my state has its own category and then see that this conference is coming up! I’m waiting to hear back from administration about funding and sub coverage.

Just wanted to say hi, and thank you to all of you who contribute so much to this site.

  11. HAHA group — guess what? I have been emailing with Leah off-list….I teach in Biddeford, and she told me last night that her daughter is a freshman (has my colleague) but that she met me yesterday! – we did a round robin sort of thing in our department yesterday – 20 mins with each of us for each class, we each taught something different….so we could get to know each other’s students and they could get to know us and feel comfortable. She teaches in the next town over, and our schools/towns are big rivals! I guess Leah and I will be seeing each other! πŸ™‚
(This is so exciting – that’s why I love this group!!!)
See ya Monday night at Open House, Leah? Looking forward to it!!!

  12. I’m looking forward to reconnecting with everyone and meeting new friends! Now that I’m in the classroom digging into the work, I’m especially excited to talk shop.

  13. Sorry Leah – I am just seeing this now!! yes – it was great to meet you! and I have your daughter T,W, TH now for reading class! if there is anything you want to borrow, just let me know and I’ll give it to her! πŸ™‚

    1. Hi John, I am looking forward to meeting you in a few weeks, especially after reading about your surreal situation. Imagine the physics of that: eliminating HW creates a vacuum which sucks up students from other departments. And this can only be reversed by threatening 6th-graders with 90 minutes per day of Latin HW in 7th grade. And you came across as so matter-of-fact about the whole bizarre ordeal.

      1. Hi John! I am also really excited to meet you. And I know you will get great support and energy from this group. This will help carry you through your rough waters. Skip’s conference is always energizing on all levels! πŸ™‚

        1. Hi Nathaniel and Jen,

I’m really looking forward to meeting both of you too! This is my first ever Maine conference and I’m really looking forward to making it an annual tradition. See you in a few short days πŸ™‚

  14. Thank you Ben for the ongoing reminders….

The food order is due October 3 so I would encourage folks to get their registration in as soon as possible.

I am looking forward to the conference….

    Thanks everyone,
    Skip

  15. we now have 138 and counting πŸ™‚
there really isn’t much time left because the Green Ladle needs a final food count soon.

Thank you for the ongoing plugs Ben!
