“This odd phenomenon in research can be likened to the work of Carl Jung, a researcher whose conclusions went far beyond the merely observable and were therefore subject to (silly) questioning by the more rational, but far more boring, members of his profession.”
Same goes with the work of Lacan after Freud and Jung , who is adulated by the french and totally misunderstood by the americans . I don’t blame them , he is so hard to understand. May be one day….. Just like Krashen, may be one day he ‘ll be respected for his great contributions.
I said something like this on moreTPRS recently, but it has stuck around in my mind so I’ll repeat it here: Christmas break is the proof of the unconscious learning that goes on in our classes. After the break, my level 1 students’ freewrite ability went through the roof. After two weeks of brand new CI–NOT REVIEW–students who were hovering around 40-60 words at the end the first semester are either solidly above 60 or even in the reaches of 100, 120, 140+ words. That is so ridiculously satisfying.
and it happens so often!!! That too is satisfying!!!
with love,

Hey Sabrina, you’re very busy here today – it seems you REALLY don’t want to be writing those exams 😉
Good luck with them!
Thank you Brigitte!
You are right , I didn’t want to write it. I somehow managed to write the reading comprehension part for my Fr 2 and I will wing the oral part (my finals are next week but we’re suppposed to submit them tomorrow). And since I am going to babysit my neighbor’s kids in a few minutes, I will work on my French1 there (hoping none of the six little cutie pies wake up!).
I hated writing that, I felt like I was in the dark with no direction. What I ended up doing is rewritting stories we’ve done and changing details and stuff and asking 40 reading comprehension questions mostly in english. I will add 10 listening comprehension questions and I’ll be done.
As far as writing or speaking, I’m not assessing them in a final format no matter what! Let the administartion come, arrest and handcuff me for all I know I still won’t do it!
