In my view, the vocabulary lists required by schools and school districts do much to ruin the possibilities that might otherwise be found in comprehensible input language instruction. Such lists throw mud on the kids parading down the street in their shiny new language learner outfits.
I have made the point many times elsewhere and so won’t belabor it here that word lists lead to memorization which leads to forgetting which leads finally and inevitably to almost zero gains in language acquisition.
Embrace mirth and frivolity and thereby keep your students focused on the meaning of the tableau or story. Stop forcing them to memorize. That’s Blaine’s original vision and what Dr. Krashen has shown is the way people acquire languages.
Teach for June. Stop doing Komprehensible Input and start doing Comprehensible Input.
