Here is another strong individually created character that is cohesive. When going through all the drawings, standing in front of class, discussing each one in English, pointing out the good things I like about each one and reading the back-of-the-page descriptors to the class, deciding, asking them which character they would like to make a story out of even when I have already decided, keeping the focus on the art, I teach them the value of good art and thoughtful back-of-the-page descriptors. They respond, because their pictures spark an interesting class:
Name: Saul the Envelope
Job: Messenger (retired)
Likes/Dislikes: wet stamps/sharp objects
Fear: not being sealed before being sent
Problem: put out of work by Gmail
Secret: was once returned to sender
