Intellectually Disabled. Really?

When teachers exclude students from the classroom process because of the way they teach the language (verb conjugations, memorization of lists of words, etc.), what they are really doing is saying that those students are intellectually disabled as language learners. THIS IS IN 100% DIRECT CONFLICT WITH WHAT THE RESEARCH SAYS ABOUT THOSE STUDENTS’ ABILITIES TO SUCCEED.

But why even say it? What was done in the 1950’s never even slowed down. And Krashen did all that research utterly disproving the “1950s Method” apparently to no avail, because the professional stupidity/ignorance on the part of most language teachers in the U.S. – including ESL teachers – is still happening. It’s like where America is right now on gun control in some ways.

Shame on us. We must change. Will we? I’m beginning to think not. The textbook lobby sees CI as a small unimportant child next to its 1.3 billion dollar lobby. In America, kids lose pretty much all the time.
