Besides Reader’s Theatre, I have been thinking lately about using more instant writing during stories. I am exploring just writing the story during the class. I might just expand the “Oh, I Gotta Write This Down!” skill to say that all the time during the creation of the story.
Before we knew it the story would be up there on the screen. I do not think that it would derail the story because I have been experimenting around with it and it seems to work. It defintely engages the left brainers who are a bit our of their element during stories. It even gives gives the kids a bit of a brain break from all the right brain activity as they see me write each sentence down to show up on the LCD screen.
This represents a combination of Steps 2 and 3. But I would never do that during RT – it is a step 2 thing and RT is a step 3 thing that is done not with stories but only with novels.
