  1. I found Claire’s scope and sequence and thought it might be a good starting point. I need to write learning goals and a curriculum map. I don’t really have much experience in this and the way we do things doesn’t exactly make the process easy. I want to include story listening, scripted and invisible stories, OWI, TPR, and lots of reading. I was wondering if anybody here had taken this on before.

    1. Jeff my hunch is that no one has ever built a curriculum based on the things you list above. They are all ways to do CI that are simple. That’s probably why. Maybe some group members will speak up who are good at writing such things and create with you a Google Doc for this project. But it requires the right person to lead it. We could put it in our “shared curriculum docs” hard link above. It would be a thing of value and beauty for the future. If even a few people could get on board with Jeff here it could save a lot of us having to re-invent the wheel later. One thing is certain – it would be a bold document!

      1. HI Jeff, I would love to tag team on this with you! I am in the middle of creating this curriculum and am spinning my wheels a bit. I am basically doing what you describe, only I have yet to nail it down, but I have sort of a start with that “Unit plan” I made (posted on here somewhere), which actually was very heavily based on Jillane Baros’ work. I made it more of a “menu” and I haven’t turned it in yet because I don’t have all my rubrics in a row.

There are so many resources in this PLC and out there in cyber land that it makes my head spin. One that I looked at recently was Robert Harrell’s “primers” for scope and sequence. Have not done anything with it.

I hope I will make some progress on it this weekend, since my documents are actually overdue. Time for me to just put something down and call it good.

Check out Mike Peto’s recent blog post also!

Let me know your contact info and maybe we can work together? In any case, I will share here whatever I come up with. It’s all a work in progress, right?

  2. There is a link to the Winnetka grades 1-8 Spanish and 6-8 French S & S, but ours is called KUDs according to Wiggins & McTighe Understanding by Design. We are going to clean up the docs this summer, (there is some reference to themes from a pre-T/CI iteration that we’ll wipe away, and ACTFL standards and other stuff that no longer aligns) but there’s still some good stuff in there to cherry pick, especially the essential questions and such. What kind of format does your doc need to be in? Do you need to record the kinds of activities (OWI, Invisibles, stories, Movie Talk, etc.) you would use to achieve your goals? We do not include these ‘vehicles’ in our very general doc.
Take a look under shared curric docs and feel free to ask any Qs…

    1. Thanks Alisa. I’m still waiting for the format, but one thing I do know is that I’m going to have to present to the BOE along with my boss. If I get it wrong…Anyway, I have until October. I appreciate the link. Thanks again!

      1. Well Jeff keep sending me little posts between now and October with updates. We need to continue the networking on this project and you shouldn’t have to do it alone. We’ll remind everyone from time to time. I admire and respect that you and your boss are willing to take something like this to the BOE. It is how real change happens. You are doing great things there. We are all very proud of your strength and determination.
