How to Discuss What We See on Videos

A blog member sent this. He makes a point that pretty much outlines the way I feel about how the video project:
Hi Ben,
I feel this idea of standardizing the way to comment on videos, or establishing common criteria, etc. reminds me too much of what I am trying to escape!…the data crunching monster that has already taken over education. Regarding details to comment on from the videos – criteria, if you will: I would suggest the 50 or so skills from TPRS in a Year! Otherwise, I simply find the visual experience of watching these videos – even with no comments – to be TRULY enlightening.  Really. It’s a more organic, “just chew on it” approach, but I find great quality in the actual VIDEO WATCHING EXPERIENCE, less in the comments. Definitely.
This point, which I fully support, echoes the point made here over the years that we ultimately do our best learning of TPRS by osmosis. We put it all in our bodies by watching others do it. Intellectualize, yes, but not too much. For me, then, the next step is to explore voice over work on the footage we put up, but that’s just me and my vision of what I think will work best to process this.
Another detail is that we will lose our clips if we put them up as comments, as comments just scroll into the past. So send me the link to yoru videos at benslavic@yahoo.com and I will make it into a separate blog post that can be categorized for easy reference, as per Angela and Drew – all we have to do is search “videos” here or click on the videos category.
The library will thus build and we will have something even more valuable than a national conference, because we will be able to have access to a lot more teachers doing CI and we can watch them whenever we want, all year round.
Remember, just film a class and send it in and don’t give it a second thought. Throw it up. Edit it you want, but just send it in and check your ego at the door. It’s the only way.
I am feeling o.k. that, once we secure in-building releases on the classes we teach (I suggest just one class – otherwise it is way too busy to process everything), that checking the  box on YouTube is going to be o.k. because only people with access to the blog will be able to get the links and view the videos.
We are still looking into Brian’s drop box idea and my using Word Press to secure some space for these videos as well.
