Ben, I know having heritage kids can be a pain in the butt, however, it gives you foreign language teachers a taste of what teaching ESL is. That’s what an average ESL classroom looks like: beginners and students with near-native (conversational) proficiency. Ability grouping is ideal, but what that’s not possible, writing can be a great equalizer.
Wonderful idea. Plus, my administrators are looking for evidence that “students are taking ownership over their learning.” This is the epitome of that.
