Helicopter Dive Bomb – 1

One of our PLC members got this email from a parent:

I’m sorry I wasn’t able to make it to Back to School Night last Friday. I do have a few questions regarding your period 4 Spanish class. My son is in this class and has a few concerns.

My main question is can a student with no Spanish background expect to do well in this class? He is ready to work hard, but as of right now he doesn’t know what to be working on. He did not understand anything in class today.

What can he expect during most class periods? Will he be able to know what assignments he has? Will there be notes for him to take? Or a book? Or worksheets? He did take Intro to Language last year and did poorly in the Spanish section.

I’m thinking a main problem is he didn’t understand the amount of time he needed to put into learning a language. He was able to get an A in the other 3 Intro language classes.

During the Spanish section last year he also remembers learning the material for the final test on the same day as he took the test. Is this something he should expect again? Or will he have time to study at home before a test?

Thank you for your help.
