Dear Ben,
My name is Hayne Painter and I’m a Spanish Teacher at Pinewood Preparatory School in Summerville, SC. I wanted to thank you for being a guide and mentor to me as I discover TPRS. My story is somewhat similar to others. I have been teaching for 13 years. I have always been looking to improve my teaching so that kids not only learn the language but apply it. I was teaching at a school where technology was plentiful. I taught myself how to use the technology (Apple stuff) for the kids to create projects in the TL. I’m now at Pinewood where there is no technology for the classroom and I was bullied into teaching the way I did a decade ago (old school). I wasn’t having fun so neither were the kids. I don’t remember how I came across TPRS but I did and loved the idea. I spent my entire Christmas break reading and researching TPRS. I decided to implement it with my 6th graders. It has been a breathe of fresh air for everyone. I just recently started using it with my Spanish 3 class and they have done well. I know that I will get tagged with the scarlet A but I don’t care. I have my arsenal of research if they want to go to battle. I have just recently joined the blog and love it. Not sure if you still have ties to South Carolina but do you know of anyone else using TPRS in their classes here? Thanks again for being a leader and I really dig Bryce’s stuff as well. I haven’t attended a workshop. Will you be presenting in the South anytime in the future?
Hayne
