Hi Ben,
Can you update the link? I accidentally shared the wrong presentation
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1aPsJu_WKW6L1EpLNf-mz1DwLBuUBjHQZ6Jk6M1C-2oI/edit
You meant the second one, right? This is done.
Thank you so much for sharing Greg! I have not yet started my FVR program, out of fear that it will fail, but I am building confidence. My periods are only 43 minutes long, so 10 min plus a PQA every day seems like a huge amount of my teaching time, we would run out of time for stories! Any advice?
I suggest shorter stories and 10 min. of FCR to start class. Free Choice Reading means it can’t fail. Do you have a class collection of books they can choose from?
You don’t necessarily have to do the PQA/Book Talk afterwards. Maybe just do that once a week or something. I just do it because it gives the appearance of “accountability”.
FCR will help settle the class down too.
Per Dr. Mason and Krashen’s research FCR is more effective than direct instruction.
I would start by buying FVR Readers from Teachers Pay Teachers because they offer readers that you can make copies for your class.
Also make sure you do the storybook project at the end of the year as described in NATTY because it’s a good way to get free material for your library.
