We’re using a subscription service called Mastery Connect (masteryconnect.com) . It’s what Michael is talking about here. Since the district bought it, it also interfaces with Infintely CrampsUs, the district grading software. So, I can scan them and import the grades into the computer. When it works, it’s awesome. Lots of glitches though and some repetitive stress. I sometimes feel like the cashier at the grocery… except that they make you unload your carts nowadays…
MasteryConnect is definitely another awesome resource; they use GradeCam to do scanning =]
I’ve been using GradeCam for 3 years now and I had glitches in the past, but now it seems to work pretty well. Currently, the only issue I have is that I can’t transfer the grades electronically from GradeCam to Q (our district’s online grade book). GradeCam says you should be able to with any online grade book, but I haven’t figured that out with Q. With Infinite Campus at my old district, it worked. Despite the shortcomings, this program saves me a lot of time, and the kids like it too. They all race to get in line to scan immediately following a quiz. It’s also helpful because there is a bunch of data functions that help get boxes checked on evaluations (my district has a data-driven initiative).
I just installed the free version of gradecam and gave it a test run today…everything worked well and I love how easy it is to use. I’m sure I’ll be using it a lot in the future. I would have liked the paid version, but alas, not in my personal budget. Free works for me…maybe I’ll upgrade in the future. Thanks for the idea…never knew it existed. 🙂
Can GradeCam be used with an iPad? (can I take a pic of the test with the iPad?)
I used to use it on my school issued MacBook pro, and it worked, so I can’t see why not. But, it is so much easier if you can connect it to a document cam. Holding the quizzes in from of a webcam takes some practice, and it just takes longer.
I’ve started using it, and love it! There’s another teacher in my school who introduced me to it. He snaps a picture with his iPad, so that works great. I just use the webcam on my laptop, which is a bit awkward, but not bad. I love the instant feedback and you can use a hotkey (normally F8) to input your grades into an electronic gradebook. (We use Q, so it works with that.) All you do is click the spot to enter the first student’s grade and then press F8. It will enter in all of the grades for you.
