Michael Nagelkerke shares this clip from SNL:
Hey Ben,
I had seen this skit before long time ago, but I watched it again and now that I know better, I couldn’t help but think that SNL is making a social commentary about how foreign language is being taught in this country. The verb conjugation part (“Yo soy su amigo. Tu eres mi amigo. Nosotros somos amigos.”) nails the whole ridiculousness of verb conjugation instruction in today’s FL classroom (no one really talks that way). It’s also beginner comprehensible. Do you think they’re reading Krashen? Even SNL gets it. The “experts” in the classrooms don’t.
