I don’t understand what an embedding reading is. I read the blog. I understand how the reading was extended, but I’m not sure how it fits in with what we do. Is it used after a period of asking a story? Is it written as an auxiliary reading?

    Thanks.

  2. The method changes daily and embedded readings were invented in the past few years by Laurie and Michele and there is a lot to fully understand them, in my opinion. Jeff since you came on board only recently I would say to let this slide for awhile. Unless you want to search the concept here or Laurie and Michele want to address it here. A search will give you the basics.

  3. The journal article is the most succinct description that Michele and I have so far of what an Embedded Reading is. What comes next is, of course, what you do with one. I was going to write an answer here, but I think that I will put a longer post up on my blog this weekend and let you know when it is ready. Bottom line is thought, like most CI elements, it’s about the same things: Personalized, Repeated, Comprehensible Input. Use it the same way you would any reading. The format is just so that students find the reading more accessible. What we have found, however, is that using them actually helps students to be better readers. Life is good. :o)

    with love,
    Laurie
