I recently had a situation with some parents where they kind of called me out for the no homework thing and not knowing what their child can do at home.

Progress in a CI classroom means, that we evaluate our own strategies to provide a flow of compelling messages in the language. So, teachers should create a rubric for themselves of each class and adjust accordingly. Focus on three aspects only, perhaps for the whole year.
For students progress is: engagement in the messages. Student is ready to listen to the next message. Student is responding non-verbally, with single words or with full expressions given the context of the messages provided by the teacher. Also, students understand the source of their acquisition is from the input they receive.
