OK, this sentence confuses me:
“We have discussed having a Native Spanish Speaker section in future years because students who have learned the language in the model you are suggesting having significant gaps in their writing and reading abilities.”
Is the principal saying that CI-instructed students are becoming proficient enough that they need to be in a class with native speakers? 🙂 Nah, that’s not it. I wonder if they have facts/studies to prove that such CI-teaching leads to those “significant gaps.” Or, contrariwise, that their method of teaching leads to much better abilities in writing and reading. Ay, lo dudo.
My take on the statement is that the principal is equating TCI/TPRS with growing up hearing Spanish from relatives. I comment on that later – just keep reading (as the posts appear).
