Here is a possible title for this new book on classroom management:
A Natural Approach to Management in the Comprehensible Input Classroom (NATMAN)
Below is the beginning of the book. Each succeeding post labeled “Classroom Management” with a number attached to it will represent the next entry in the book. Of course, the final product won’t be exactly what we publish here, but the basic content will be. Nor will the textual material presented in these posts be considered to be in final edited form, obviously. Suggestions/comments are always welcome!
A Link
There is a link between our mental health and how we manage our classrooms. It is the purpose of this book to explore that link, with the goal of resolving – once and for all – the management “problem” in the comprehensible input classroom.
We take the position in this book that our language instruction should build intrinsic motivation in our students. When our instruction is no longer defined by subtle passive opposition from our students and is replaced by their active engagement in class, with everybody sharing the same goal, good things happen.
Merely having command of all the different CI teaching skills is not enough. Our students must actually hear the input that we so carefully provide to them. Loving our students is not enough. Guiding and developing them to become effective readers and listeners in a firm but loving way is what is needed now.
