  1. Julia what you said there about not having the emotional strength necessary to educate your employer is so true. I think that probably 99% of us fall into that category. The thing is that when the administrators are ignorant (not in the pejorative sense but in the French sense of the verb “ignorer” which means “to not know”), then they don’t know what to look for on the level of pedagogy, so what does it matter?
All they really want is happy kids and no parent complaints. So I have always thought of happy kids as being the main barometer in evaluation, because happy kids lead to good evaluations.
Why take the time to educate anyone about our work if they are not even interested? Most administrators are generalists and so many of them aren’t even aware of Krashen. The real culprits in our buildings are the colleagues who “squeal” to the admins about how we hippies are not doing our jobs right, following the “curriculum” which is really for them the table of contents of the book. So by even engaging them in conversation we open up hostilities.
BUT if we say nothing, then when they go to the administration to complain behind our backs as they do, what is the administrator going to do, having seen kids over the moon with the language whenever they came into our classroom that year?

  2. It just takes so much energy to try to explain to him. He (admin) interrupts me and defends his wacky position when I try. I’m so mad this week. >:(
