It’s all about fear. Either we raise the freak flag on our boats as each story chugs out of the CI harbors each day, or we don’t. If we want the good stuff, we – and that includes new people – will start out our stories without targets. That’s what Blaine does and explains why Blaine is “so good” while the rest of the world “sucks” at TPRS. He just doesn’t target structures!
Yes, targets and the new TPRS lesson plans provide the new TPRSer with tracks for their CI train to travel down. But I don’t like train tracks. I don’t like to go where the train takes me, because it’s the same place every day. We all chug out of the train station and go down the same tracks with different targets but the scenario is the same.
Contrast that with being on a (trackless, targetless) CI boat on which we get to chug out of the CI harbor each day not knowing or caring where the boat goes. We can see so far on the ocean! The sky is limitless! We could go anywhere! In CI boats we get to imagine things with the kids that we never could have imagined! There is nothing in our way, no limits to our creativity!
