Here Robert describes the new AP format for German, which will be put into place for the 2013-2014 academic year. I’m going to try to memorize the course themes so that I can instantly inform any doubters that this change is really taking place. Can you imagine what kids who have only been trained to manipulate the language but have no proficiency are going to do to this thing? It will be ugly. Here is the new format:
The new Course is designed around the Six Course Themes (Global Challenges, Science and Technology, Contemporary Life, Personal and Public Identities, Families and Communities, Beauty and Aesthetics. I assume the Spanish is identical to the French. I know that the change either has happened in Spanish or is in process. These are just details. Most of us are not concerned about now, because, as a group, our really heavy hitters, I would assume, are just ninth graders now.
The sad part of me is the dropping of the AP French Literature exam. It was dropped because it was not profitable. To the company. Not enough customers. Hmmm. I wonder why.
