Even if we haven’t seen them, most of us know about zombie movies – dead people who don’t know they’re dead trying to eat the brains of the living. I think we are going to be dealing with zombie grammar programs for a while to come. We have to try to prevent them from eating our students’ language brains.
Dude. That’s an image.
Just had to comment, although it’s slightly OT…I started tutoring an adult student who is trying to get her undergrad degree at a local state college. She is in intermediate French and cannot put together a sentence without furrowing her brow, saying “Let’s see” in English, and then sighing deeply. Her teacher uses Schaums’ latest horror textbook…all grammar, all the time.
I know will be living through the zombie grammar programs for the foreseeable future but I take some comfort knowing that the truth is lurking out there waiting to break through. We have seen the light and it is gooooooooooood!
