Yesterday during FVR I noticed that one of my students was reading the fabulous children’s book Brown Bear, Brown Bear (what do you see?). So I decided to read it to the kids right after the FVR session, kind of like on kindergarten day. It was amazing to see them relax and enjoy being read to.
I put all I could into the voices of the different animals. They seemed to appreciate the effort. We had a good time and it had little to do with academics or even getting better at French. We were just having fun.
I want to do more of that, and not just because it’s fun, but also because the kids always need to feel safe, not threatened, able to relax, and not be found wanting for failing to perform some task, when they learn a language.
