Yesterday in a discussion I asked the kids to write the word “connaît” (I’m doing like Eric says and focusing heavily on important verbs now before our big April DPS exit tests.)
So I then orally spelled it to them in English and added, in English, that the “i” had a house on it. Sometimes I say circumflex, sometimes I say hat, or carrot top, or roof, but this time I said house (I meant roof).
Anyway, a girl, not a French student, was visiting from another class with her friend, one of my students, and wrote out the word and drew an actual house over the letter “i”.
So she drew a word with a little house instead of the dot that we usually see over the letter “i”. It was kind of an alpine house, very small, perfectly drawn, with a little balcony and a few flowers.
I love my students.
