  1. What a great post…please categorize it under “History” or something like that so we can find it again.
Now I want to hear Paul! Please share more on his presentation when you can!

  2. Paul is amazing. He holds a lot of keys and has since 1995. He is one of those quieter people you have to draw stuff out of like Matava. I don’t see us developing the culture piece without him. I’ll do what I can to get him (and Bryce and Anne!) more visible here. Now if somebody could figure out how to get Joe Neilson into the discussion, we will have done something.

  3. Your title “Don’t read it” made me want to read it. Very interesting. I agree that incorporating more culture/history into the comprehensible input based classroom is the next challenge.

  4. It just makes sense. The stories are so hard for some people, and yet teaching a culture/history lesson (from any source that we choose), using what we have learned about CI over these years, is just easy. We’re not on Broadway. We don’t have to make ’em laugh all the time. Jason showed us in Los Alamitos how to personalize any readings with Reader’s Theatre. So I agree, Orlando, a next challenge for me involves taking written texts about culture and injecting some life into them, maybe to a lesser degree than with readings from stories, but making them interesting enough so that the class is all done in well circled CI and thus gets the cultural/historical points. I’m not say stop the stories and readings or changing anything. No changing, just adding. Jason showed us last summer how Reader’s Theatre can be a source of great fun. Doing more theatre based on historical fiction gives us another choice. When we have more choices, we won’t feel bound by stories.
