  1. “I suggested Tim Tebow and although they accepted it, it was definitely more awkward and didn’t “feel” like the right answer somehow – hard to explain, but that’s how it felt.”
I often forget that piece, but the kids’ answers almost always “feel” right vs. my “right” answers.
I had to teach on my prep the first four weeks this year until we hired a teacher to cover our extra enrollment. For some reason, this group of kids really helped me feel their right answers.

  2. …this group of kids really helped me feel their right answers…..

That is part of the overall process I have referred to as “mind meld”. This phenomenon in this kind of instruction where the class as a whole argues agressively on behalf of a certain answer, usually to combat something the teacher is offering, is unique in this work. When it happens you know you are will on the road to doing strong comprehension based instruction bc the collective mind of the class begins to function. It’s cool and I don’t think it gets talked about much but it is definitely a thing that happens in classes. It’s one of the reasons I need the job of Professor #2 to sort things out on behalf of the class.
