Computers can alter images. They can enhance them or distort them. I believe that by trying to make Krashen’s theories fit into school settings, we have distorted them. We have taken a beautiful face and put a very large forehead on it. That’s probably not what happened. Much good has been done to offer a replacement to the hideous witch face that offered kids poisoned apples for so long before Blaine came along. But still, in my opinion, the forehead on the beautiful face that we have offered to replace the witch is too big. The only thing is, we can’t use a computer to fix that distortion. Only teaching using our hearts can do that. That is why this work is so hard. Outside of the classroom we get caught up in our minds, in arguing and in criticizing, while inside the classroom we keep forgetting that involvement of the conscious mind, the big forehead in language acquisition destroys the majesty of the process.
