There is currently a great Big Picture presentation on diving that syncs great with a lot of year-beginning vocabulary. It’s called “Diving In” and can be found at:

In Circling with Balls, we are using the verb “jump” an awful lot, and this picture set takes that and drills it wonderfully. I used the terms “jumps”, “lands”, “spins”, “water” and “ground” to mix and match all through a short actor demo (Bill jumps, spins and lands in the water! Ahhh. Does he land on Jane? YES!, etc.) and during the presentation (Does he spin? Does he land in the water? Where does he land? Is that a good idea? Etc.) I easily got over a 100 reps on “jump”, over 75 on “spin” and all with high comprehension levels.
My classes today from 7th grade up through 12th had a fun time discussing, circling and riffing our way through the day. Altogether it made for a relaxed and fun day.
